The Family is Ordained of God

Many people know who God is. Many call him “Father” or “Heavenly Father”. Within His title we see the family relationship, father. The great plan of happiness is based around family. Since the beginning of time family units have existed. I am grateful for the knowledge and wisdom of our Heavenly Father to have us born into families as we journey through this mortal existence. Life is hard, but we have family to help us along the way. I am extremely grateful for my own family and privileged to be able to start my own family with my wife.

1. “A man and a woman are to make sacred covenants that they will put the welfare and happiness of the other at the center of their lives. Children are to be born into a family where the parents hold the needs of children equal to their own in importance. And children are to love parents and each other.”—President Eyring (General Conference, October 2009, Sunday Morning)

2. “Pray for the love which allows you to see the good in your companion. Pray for the love that makes weaknesses and mistakes seem small. Pray for the love to make your companion’s joy your own. Pray for the love to want to lessen the load and soften the sorrows of your companion.”—President Eyring (General Conference, October 2009, Sunday Morning)

3. “Just as a woman cannot conceive a child without a man, so a man cannot fully exercise the power of the priesthood to establish an eternal family without a woman.” —President Eyring (General Conference, October 2009, Sunday Morning)

4. “The prophetic counsel to have daily personal and family prayer, daily personal and family scripture study, and weekly family home evening are the essential, weight-bearing beams in the construction of a Christ-centered home.”--Elder Scott (General Conference, April 2013)

5. “Remember that having religious observance in the home is as important as providing food, clothing, and shelter.”—Elder Cook Ensign, November 2009

6. In our families and in our stakes and districts, let us seek to build up Zion through unity, godliness, and charity, preparing for that great day when Zion, the New Jerusalem, will arise.”—Elder Christofferson Ensign November 2008

7. “There is no greater happiness than is found in the most meaningful of all human relationships—the companionships of husband and wife and parents and children.”—President Gordon B. Hinckley

8. “I wish to say a word about the Holy Spirit of Promise, which is the sealing and ratifying power of the Holy Ghost. To have a covenant or ordinance sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise is a compact through which the inherent blessings will be obtained, provided those seeking the blessing are true and faithful (see D&C 76:50-54). For example, when the covenant of marriage for time and eternity, the culminating gospel ordinance, is sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise, it can literally open the windows of heaven for great blessings to flow to a married couple who seek for those blessings. Such marriages become rich, whole, and sacred.”—Elder James E. Fausts

9. “Happiness does not consist of a glut of luxury, the world’s idea of a “good time” Nor must we search for it in faraway places with strange sounding names. Happiness is found at home.”--Thomas S. Monson, Hallmarks of a Happy Home, Ensign October 2001

10. “Daily we should kneel in family prayer and study the scriptures together. Weekly we should observe the Sabbath day by attending our meetings, especially sacrament meeting, and behave appropriate to the activities that are proper for the Lord’s day. We should also gather our families together in weekly family home evenings.”—Elder Perry Ensign, May 1990
